Musikskolens dannelsesrejse til Wien oktober 2003

The educational trip to Vienna of the music-school, October 2003.


Musikskolen - herunder Cecilie, Christoffer, Maria og jeg - har tilbragt efterårsferien i Wien, hvortil musikskolen havde arrangeret koncert- og dannelsesrejse. Efter ankomst midnat mellem lørdag og søndag, var vi søndag eftermiddag klar til at holde kirkekoncert i Oberwart ca. 120 km syd for Wien. Her ses koret i den evangeliske kirke i Oberwart.

The music-school - including Cecilie, Christoffer, Maria and me - has spent the autumn holiday in Vienna to where the music school had arranged a concert- and educational tour. Having arrived at about midnight between Saturday and Sunday, we were in the late afternoon of Sunday ready to give a church concert in Oberwart approximately 120 km south of Vienna. Here our choir stands in the Lutheran Church of Oberwart.

Min salme til tekst af Anton Berntsen var én ud af i alt 14 uropførelser, som vi medbragte til Wien. Her er Christoffer, Cecilie, Maria Louise, Cecilie og jeg i gang med at fortolke den. Bagefter gav Oberwart, middag og gaver. Borgmesteren Gerhard Pongracz og kommunaldirektør Werner Gilschwert var til stede sammen med medlemmer af foreningen "Eurowart", som - især gennem ét af sine medlemmer Sylvia Stampf - havde arrangeret denne koncert. Blandt alle disse mennesker mødte vi også Dr. Michael Muhr, som talte fremragende dansk. Han havde boet i Danmark og Sverige i nogle år og som barn havde han været ét af de såkaldte "Wienerbørn" i Danmark. Vi blev i det hele taget behandlet med udsøgt gæstfrihed.

My hymn to a text by Anton Berntsen was one of fourteen first-time-performances, which we took with us to Vienna. Here Christoffer, Cecilie, Maria Louise, Cecilie and I are interpreting it. Afterwards Oberwart gave a dinner, we exchanged presents, the burgomaster of Oberwart, Mr. Gerhard Pongracz, the chief executive Werner Gilschwert and members of the association "Eurowart", which - especially by one of its members Mrs. Sylvia Stampf - had arranged this concert, were present. Among all these people we met Michael Muhr, who spoke Danish most excellently. He had lived in Denmark and Sweden for some years, and as a child he was one of the so-called "Wiener-children" of Denmark. We were treated with the utmost hospitality.

Ved middagstid næste dag gav byen Wien middag i "Schottenkeller" - et ganske malerisk sted tæt ved aftenens koncertsal.

At noon on the next day, the city of Vienna had arranged a dinner in "Schottenkeller" - a pittoresque place near the concert-hall of that evenings concert.




Koncerten blev holdt i "Prälatensaal", der ligger nær Schottentor og Freyung i Wiens bymidte. Vi havde et stort publikum og salen var fremragende. Efterfølgende mødte vi igen nogle "Wienerbørn", bl.a. en imponerende 95-årig kvinde, der stadig talte dansk.

The concert was held in "Prälatensaal, situated in the city of Vienna. We had a big audience, and the room was very well fit for concerts. Afterwards we met some of the "Wiener-children" again, among these af 95 year-old lady, who still knew her Danish language.

Vores aftensmad stod kulturforum DanAustria for. De havde arrangeret masser af chili con carne, og der var en hyggelig stemning i deres lokaler. DanAustria er et frivilligt stykke arbejde drevet især af ildsjælen og danskeren Marianne Aguilar. I virkligheden er det en rest af det danske kulturinstitut i Wien, som regeringen mente at kunne undvære, da muren faldt, og man hellere ville have et i St. Petersborg. At der skal være et dansk kulturinstitut i Østeuropa kan der vel næppe være megen uenighed om, men at man mener at kunne undvære et i kulturens og musikkens hovedstad er helt uforståeligt. Marianne, der nærmest havde arrangeret alle de praktiske detaljer i musikskolens tur til Wien er i den heldige situation, at hun har en mand, som er diplomat. Hun behøver (siger hun selv) ikke en egen indtægt og kan derfor hellige sig arbejdet i DanAustria. Politikerne, der jo elsker frivillig og gratis arbejdskraft, er selvfølgelig henrykte over, at man stadig kan have et "kulturinstitut" i Wien, uden man behøver at betale for det.

Our supper that night was arranged and provided for by DanAustria. They had made lots of lots of chili con carne, and we had a very fine evening in their rooms. DanAustria is based upon a complete voluntary effort by the Danish fiery soul Marianne Aguilar. It is, really, the remains of the Danish Institute of Culture in Vienna. An institute, that the Danish government thougt, that they could do without, when the wall between East and West came down. In stead they established a new one in St. Petersburg. The fact, that a Danish cultural institute is needed in former Eastern Europe lies beyond any doubt, but believing at the same time, that a Danish cultural institute isn't necessary in the capitol of European Art and Music is incredible. Marianne, who had taken care of all the practical details of our trip to Vienna, is so lucky, that she's got a husband, who is a diplomate. She doesn't need (according to herself) an income of her own, and therefore she has got the time for doing something for DanAustira. Politicians, who love voluntary work, and efforts, that they don't have to pay for, find it marvellous, that they can still have a "Cultural Institute of Vienna" without any spends.

Næste dags koncert blev holdt i Seniorenresidenz i Oberlaa. Strygeorkestret fra Musikschule Favoriten åbnede koncerten, og vort big band spillede til slut. Efter mine introduktioner på tysk, syntes Kurt - vor big band leder - at han hellere lige måtte lave sine egne præsentationer på dansk. Bagefter fortalte Franz Schuller fra Wiens kulturforvaltning - endnu én af vore hjælpere dernede - at han havde forstået alt, som Kurt havde sagt, på grund af hans kropssprog.

The concert of the next day was placed in Seniorenresidenz in Oberlaa. The string orchestra of Musikschule Favoriten opened this concert, and our big band was last to play. After my introductions in German, Kurt - our big band leader - found it best to make his own introductions in Danish. Afterwards Franz Schuller from the cultural administration of Vienna - another one of our helpers - explained, that he had understood everything said by Kurt because of his body language

Onsdag formiddag så vi Wiens rådhus indefra. Noget ikke enhver turist får mulighed for. Den flotte festsal var imponerende.

On Wednesday morning we saw the interiors of the town hall of Vienna, an opportunity not available to any tourist. The enormous banqueting hall in all its splendour was amazingly beautiful. (Willy Stolarczyk, photo I, and Anne Katrine Rønsholdt, photo II).

Onsdag eftermiddag var vi bl.a. på Zentralfriedhof, hvor vi så kapellet, nogle af komponistgravene og det imponerende gravmonument over arkitekten Theophil Hansen, den berømte danske arkitekt, der har tegnet flere af de berømte bygninger langs "Ringstrasse" i Wiens centrum. Vi lagde roser på Schuberts og (her) Robert Stolz' grave.

On Wednesday afternoon we went to Zentralfriedhof, where we saw the church, some of the graves of the famous composers and the imposing sepulchral monument of Theophil Hansen, the famous Danish architect, who made a number of the famous buildings at the Wiener Ringstrasse in the city of Vienna. Om aftenen var vi i Kursalon for at overvære en Mozart / Strauss-koncert. Omgivelserne var flotte, men orkestret forekom indimellem noget i tvivl om, hvad de selv spillede!

In the evening we went to the Kursalon to attend a Mozart / Strauss-concert. The surroundings were almost lavish, but the orchestra seemed to be in doubt of what they were actually playing from time to time.


Torsdag var vi henne for at se og høre orglet i Stephansdom. Ikke blot var domorganist Peter Planyavsky til stede, der var også en orgelkonsulent. Han ses her på billedet. I nogle år var han domorganist i Strängnäs Domkirke i Sverige, og han talte perfekt svensk, hvilket jeg tror vi alle forstod. Ikke blot talte han svensk, han forstod også dansk og han spillede fornemt på orgelt, da han til slut improviserede bl.a. over "Ach Värmeland du sköna" og andre melodier.

On Thursday we went to see - and hear the organ at the Stephansdom. Not only was the cathedral organist Mr. Peter Planyavsky present, also an organ consultant was there. He is seen on this picture. He was for some years a cathedral organist of Strängnäs Cathedral, Sweden, and he spoke perfectly Swedish, which - I think - all of us understood. Not only did he speek Swedish, he understood Danish as well, and he played brilliantly at the organ, when he at last made an improvisation over "Ach Värmeland du sköna" among other tunes.(Willy Stolarczyk, photo II)

I nærheden af Stephansdom finder man Domgasse 5, hvor Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart boede fra 1784 - 1788 - en ret lykkelig periode i hans liv, hvor han var forholdsvis velhavende. Han komponerede "Figaros bryllup", mens han boede der, og derfor kaldes huset også "Figaro-huset". Det er noget af en oplevelse at gå på de samme trapper som Mozart og gå rundt i hans stuer.

Rather close to the cathedral you find Domgasse 5, where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived from 1784 - 1788 - a rather happy period of his life, where he was relatively well-to-do. He composed "The Marriage of Figaro" while living there, therefore the house is called The Figaro House. It is quite an experience to walk the steps that Mozart once walked and to stroll around in his rooms.

Pludselig dukkede en blomstersælger op i rummet, så jeg købte en rose til Cecilies veninde Lousie, som fejrede sin 17 års fødselsdag den dag.

Suddenly a rose-salesman showed up in our room, so I bought a rose for Cecilie's friend Louise, who celebrated her 17th birthday that Thursday.

Og én til min datter Cecilie, fordi hun er min datter, og fordi hun havde holdt en lille tale for Louise. Maria fik også én for sin store opbakning og Anne Katrine for sin vellykkede debut som taler.

And one for my daughter Cecilie for being my daughter, and for having celebrated Louise by a short speech. Maria also got one for her immense support and Anne Katrine for her successful debut as a speaker.

Og Svend brød ud i sang og fik hele selskabet til at blive en gigantisk sangfest, som båede danskere og østrigere tog del i.

And Svend broke into singing, which made the whole dinner turn over into a gigantic song-party, in which both Danes and Austrians took part.

Da vi kom tilbage til hotellet viste det sig, at vor kontrabassist Lars Koch også var poet. Han havde skrevet en sang til melodien "Wien du Stadt meiner Träume", som på humoristisk vis opsummerer hele turen. Fredag morgen kl. 7 forlod vi Wien og tilbragte de næste 18 timer i vores bus men med en fantastisk tur i bagagen.

Back at the hotel, Lars Koch, our bass-player, turned out to be a poet. He had written a song to the tune "Wien du Stadt meiner Träume" in which he humorously sums up the whole trip. Lars is seen here to the left singing his song together with the 63 others of us all. Friday morning at 7 A.M we left Vienna and spent the following 18 hours in our bus, sharing the memories of a marvellous trip
